How Is Your Day?

Mine was pretty cruddy. First off let me start by saying I've been congested and waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air. It's becoming impossible for me to sleep lying down. This is combined with the fact that the baby likes to be in the breech position (head down, feet up) making it perfect for her to execute precise kicks straight up and into my lungs. Again sitting up gasping for air. The last two nights I've been having night terrors. They're of being trapped in extremely crowded elevators with no air, a coffin, a box, and the one where I'm being smothered. See the pattern? No air. I'm at the point where I'm almost scared to sleep. I sit up in bed watching Roseanne on Nick at Nite (I love her) and sometimes fall back to sleep sitting up. On average I've been getting maybe 2-3 hours a night. I do catch up somewhat during the day because when I sit on the couch with my feet up I zonk out almost immediately. I just feel so weak, tired, shaky and dizzy. I can cry on a dime.

Today I had to go in for a glucose tolerance test. This is to determine whether or not you've developed gestational diabetes. The worst part is the fasting beforehand. How evil is it to ask a pregnant woman not to eat? So this morning I get up and go to the lab at NYU and there are no joke about 30 people ahead of me. Part for me freaked and the other part was too weak to care. I only waited about 1/2 hour which I think is pretty good considering the volume of people they're pumping through. You go in they take your blood and then they make you drink this luke warm bottle of orange glucose (imagine swigging a can of orange soda that had been sitting out and getting flat for a week. Yep, it's that good). Then you go and sit for an hour and they take another blood sample. O.k. so it's not the worst thing in the world.

The second part was I then had to go to the blood center at NYU and get a Rhogam shot because I have Rh-negative blood.

From Web MD:
If your blood is Rh-negative and you have been sensitized to Rh-positive blood, you now have antibodies to Rh-positive blood. The antibodies kill Rh-positive red blood cells. If you become pregnant with an Rh-positive baby (fetus), the antibodies can destroy your fetus's red blood cells. This can cause anemia.

No sweat I walk over to that building and I hand the lady behind the desk the Rx my doc wrote for it. Well, it's written on the wrong Rx pad. She proceeds to tell me that my Doc is notorious for this. The Rx has to be written on the NYS registered Rx pads blah, blah, blah. She calls over to my docs office explains it to them and gets them to fax over the right Rx. She then faxes it to the dispensary. The dispensary won't dispense it because the NYS water mark isn't coming through legibly (are you frickin kidding me?). She then explains the whole thing, my doc wrong Rx, new Rx is a fax copy etc. finally they dispense it after giving her major grief (thank you Rosalie at NYU!).

I get the shot, I head home stopping at 'wichcraft for a yummy sandwich before I pass out from hunger. I get home and one of my cats has been kind enough to puke on the dining room rug. I guess they figured I would want a present to clean up when I got back. Thanks guys!

Sorry but I just needed to vent a bit.

How's your day going?

Oh hon, I'm so sorry, I've been there, I can remember it like it was yesterday. Like I said, I knew ALL the infomercials. My issue was that (on top of endless hiccups from the crazy baby) I had heartburn that was so vicious, I ended up sleeping sitting up towards the end. The sofa and I were such good friends! I was Rh-negative too! Okay, that glucose test, when I did it I was so hot and thirsty/hungry that I swigged that thing down and asked for another (they kept ours in the fridge so that made it better) - sad, right? Hang in there I swear you will feel normal again, sleep deprived, but normal. Feel free to vent anytime! Hugs!

oh mamacita! i am so sorry. that does indeed sound dreadful. does sleeping on your side help? fiona was in breech position up until a few days before the big day. i know those kicks. sheesh!!
also...LOVE roseanne too. one of my all time fave shows.
and i hate to say it, but at least you don't have the real deal diabetes now always and forever. i do. and i would give any amount of money in the world and then some to be able to go in, drink that nasty drink and a bucket of puke too so long as it meant i didn't have to have diabetes. that drink is nothing compared to having to live with diabetes. sorry, you know i love you.

Kristin- He's been a saint. I really couldn't ask for better. He's so excited to be a dad and is feeling so helpless sitting on the sidelines not knowing what to do to help.

MFaMB- I actually thought about you when I was sitting for that hour waiting. I really can't imagine how hard it is to deal with on a regular day to day basis let alone while being pregnant.
Side sleeping doesn't help at all. I figure at least I'm picking up good parenting tips from Roseanne.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a crappy day! I was home sick today with a migraine, if that makes you feel a little better.

Being diabetic myself, I know ALL about blood labs, crowded waiting rooms, etc. So I can certainly sympathize! At least that crap should be over for you in just a few months, right? :)

I'm Rh negative too. It sounds like life is shitty and uncomfortable at the moment, but it will get better. I'm glad you still have your lovely sense of humor! Cat puke...what is up with that?! Luigi likes to sit in my lap while I blog...yesterday he overjumped...tried to get purchase (I love saying that word) and dug his frigging back claws into my hand. Then...he puked!

So now...broken toe and mangled hand. I'm rocking the gorgeousness!

Oh I love when they use your skin as a means to stabilize and gain traction. Those back claws do serious damage too. At least the front ones are so sharp they make clean cuts and minimal scaring.
