Lusting For Leiber

Leiber Antique Japanese Wood & Brass Minaudiere

I'm usually not the biggest fan of Judith Leiber's work. Not that it's not amazing it's just the whole bedazzled animal clutches are a little much for my tastes. I am crazy about this vintage 1970's wood clutch though. It sort of reminds me of the stock of a shotgun with the inlay and brass end plates.

I think most of you know how much I loathe those stupid TB Flats with the giant "Look World! I bought Tory Burch Flats!" medallion on them. However, this bag is a different story. First off, the hardware is tastefully done. I love the muted soft gold on the sides and the leather looks so smooth and supple I just want to touch it. Click on image for details.

Auction (and more) Update

So yesterday I posted about that gorgeous little Cartier Pillbox that's available in the Beverly Sills Estate Auction.

The other thing I did yesterday was go uptown to the imaging center to get another round of ultrasounds done to check on the Townhousebaby's development. So far everything's looking good (yippee!!). Despite the fact that the baby is very stubborn and would not move into the positions that the ultrasound tech needed to get all of the measurements she was looking for. I said is this a predictor of future behaviors? She said, "Yes, usually". GREAT.

After the testing we went out to dinner and then leisurely strolled around checking things out. What did we walk right past??

DOYLE NEW YORK!

That's right. I went in and got to preview the auction items. I took a photo with my crappy camera phone (seriously, I apologize for how crappy the pic is) I wanted you to see this little pill box opened. Once you engage the clasp open the two sides pop open and then another flap opens by a hinge at the top. This part has a mirror on it. While the sides look as though they are mirrored as well it's just highly polished gold. The best part, what's inside is no ordinary pill box. It has a little disc inside that has pin-point indents. Why? I'm told it's to keep snuff aerated. The disc allows air to circulate and not let the snuff get clumpy.

How incredible is that? Don't you love it?

I also got to look at the Judith Leiber Ivory Minaudiere. The lining of the bag is a very bright gold leather. It also contains a gold comb with Judith's signature engraved on the side of the comb. Very beautiful.

After retiring from singing in 1980, she became the general manager of the New York City Opera. In 1994, she became the Chairman of Lincoln Center and then, in 2002, of the Metropolitan Opera, stepping down in 2005. Sills lent her celebrity to further her charity work for the prevention and treatment of birth defects.

Seriously, are people really that stupid? For gods sake they couldn't even put one of those little magnetic closures on them? At least Comme de Garcons had the decency to line their bag (for $105- more).

No, I'm not telling you where to buy them. Why? because frankly I will not participate in this greedy ridiculousness! You want it you find it.

Lusting for...

I've always had a thing for items made from shell and horn (as evidence by The Takashimaya serving set a few posts down). These glamorous bags are all made from 100% recycled shell and horn by Urthbags. I paid a small fortune for my abalone clutch. I really wish to hell I'd known about these. They're such a low prices for such high end materials.
