Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, Designed by John Galliano

The London Hotel Claridge signed up Christian Dior creative director John Galliano to work his magic on its Christmas tree.

"I hope to bring a twist to the traditional tree," said Galliano in a statement. "I want to combine the festive with the innovative, the spirit of Dior with the beauty of Claridge's, and create something spectacular that will inspire the perfect start to the season!" He's elected to go tropical by way of the orient, with a papier-mâché tree adorned with crystals, sparkling leaves, and orchids.

The tree, which launched last night , December 1st, dominates the hotel’s lobby. It is painted in white and metallic blue and perched among its branches are a handmade leopard, several parrots and a dragonfly.

The Dior tree will remain in Claridge’s lobby until Twelfth Night, January 6th.

Pretty, but no relation to Christmas whatsoever.

Why does everyone feel the need to smash every bit of Christmas out of Christmas? Why is that suddenly considered so cool?

OMG that is so beautiful.

Cool and awesome! I do have to agree with the Countess - not really Christmas related. Though I will admit that a cat has been in our tree before, but ours was the housecat kind and it was only trying to get at the ornaments :o)

I sort of like the drawing more than the actual tree, that is absotively gorgey! They should sell prints!

i'm with dobbygirl -- i *love* the drawing, but the actualization doesn't really do it for me.

I think the leopard is incredible! But I'm with the ladies on the drawing. I wanna frame it.

Did you see that Simon Doonan from Barney's is doing the White House decorations - LOVE HIM! I kind of think that's awesome.

Simon is one of my all time idols. I studied Display and Exhibit Design at FIT and we used to go to see his Barney's windows all the time. He was always very gracious and eager to answer our technical and design questions. He never rushed us.

I passed him once outside my office on 5th and I remember thinking that he was much shorter than I had pictured him. I love him too and I totally love that he's partners with Jonathan Adler. I sooooo want to be their friend!!!! I have a feeling they are one fun couple to hang with!

JG always provides such eye candy. Even though our respective entrance halls are smaller, I do believe we could pull this off.
