What an awesome post, starting with the title. I agree the uniforms in the first photos are the best. Can you imagine flight attendants dressing like that now? Hysterical. Have a great weekend.
I love these as I am an aviatio buff as well, and have done several posts like this. Believe it or not I actually remember the Ansett uniforms from when I was a child. sadly like most of the airlines featured here, they are no more!
There used to be an awesome exhibit in Atlanta's Hartfield-Jackson Airport with many retro/vintage Delat flight attendant & pilot uniforms on display - it was wonderful! Each time you walked through their international terminal, it was such a sight & too fun!
The first time that I took an international flight, I wore white gloves and my mother wore a chanel suit. Yes...I am that old! I still dress well when I fly becuase I find that I am treated better by the flight attendants and ticket people than people who are wearing their sweatpants and sneakers.
i love this. so groovy. and the song is perfect on your ghetto blaster. it always scares me though.
these pics remind me of the movie "boeing boeing" starring tony curtis. and the great leo dicaprio movie of a few years back that i'm too lazy to google and can't think of...he was a serial imposter..my favorite part was when he posed as a pilot and was walking through the airport with a stewardess on each arm.
Great post! Who was it that was tapped to design cute little numbers for flight attendants a few years back? I'm drawing a blank, but seem to remember the outfits being very retro-cool.
I agree with Jill...I missing those times when flying was so "glamorous". These days it's just so much pain...But to be honest I'm so grateful each time when I land safely :-)
And I also agree with Jill - why on Earth would anyone want the word "Juicy" (even if it's the brand name) on their butt. Makes me think they are advertising their bowel issues or something.
But I must say that I looked like crap when I flew back last Sunday, after 1:30 hour delay with a wiggly 1 year old, I challenge anyone to look glamourous!

Back in the day when flying was "glamorous" and we didn't have to look at "juicy" written across some shlubs ass.
Ughhhh...don't you just loathe anything 'juicy'? So gross.

Great post :-)
These are fantastic pictures! I agree with Jill in the first comment.
Thanks for the fun look back.
Love this post! It reminds me of Blow, George's girlfriend was the flight attendant and she would smuggle all the drugs in and out for him.
Why do I always relate things to drug movies?
Wow, it's incredible the "standards" that industry used to have!

If they still dressed like that I would be first in line!!!!
Great pics ; )
This actually makes me want to be a flight attendant. Despite the fact that flying scares me! :)
