Amazing Esther!

One of my new favorite bloggers is Anthony over at Pop Circus.

His posts are always filled with wonderful pictures and stories.

Today he did a post that really struck a chord deep in my heart. See, when I was little we practically lived on the beach or at the pool. I used to always pretend I was the ever so glamorous Esther Williams. Her movies were stunning and I just thought she was a goddess.

So please pop on over to PopCircus and take a look at the post on the mermaid herself, Esther Williams.

While you're at it, jump on as one of his followers, he never disappoints (no pressure Anthony!).

Vintage Velvet

I know it's a little hot (o.k., a LOT hot) to be thinking about velvet but it's not everyday something like this comes onto the market.

1928 Babani mauve butter silk velvet caftan with gold metallic passementerie embroidery around neckline and all the way down arms to cuffs, with renaissance style lace up cuffs and matching sash. Silk lining.

Note: Katherine Hepburn chose the same Babani gown in white for her 1928 wedding to businessman Ludlow Ogden Smith (they divorced in 1934). In Miss Hepburn's manuscript for her autobiography, "Me," she describes the dress: "...I had a pretty dress - a Babani. It was crushed white velvet with gold antiqued embroidery sort of around the neck and bit down the front and on the sleeves. "The dress was auctioned in 2004 at Sotheby's and hammered at $27,000.

Madame Babani opened her Paris shop in 1919. She carried decorative items and imported textiles from the Orient as well as designs from Liberty of London and Mariano Fortuny. The influence of Fortuny can be seen in many of her creations.

Babani's work often exhibits historical borrowing that constitutes the life of any art form. Babani's inspiration drew from the past and her palette tended to be brighter than that of Fortuny.

Honest Scrap Tag

So, the lovely Arlynn at Fleur De-licious, tagged me in "Honest Scrap!"

By being tagged, I have to list 10 truly honest things about myself, then tag some of you... and no judging :-)

Deep Breath, here goes...

  1. I love pretty shoes but I hate wearing them. I'll spend a kings ransom on the finest shoes but I love to be barefoot. Always. Work, home, anywhere I'm always slipping off my shoes. I only wear them when absolutely necessary. I like the feeling of the grass, sand, wood, tile, carpet or rug on my feet.
  2. I'm a homebody. I'd rather be at home with my handsome man and our brood than out anytime.
  3. I don't have a drivers license. When you live in the city you really never have a need to get one. So, I haven't. I have what's called a Non-Drivers State Identification Card. You get it at the DMV you just don't take any tests. Now I'm thinking about it just because it would be nice to rent a car when we go somewhere. Vacation Driver?
  4. I love junk food. I love to enjoy the finest epicurean delights as well. I'm actually quite the foodie but, I'm just as happy with a hot dog (so long as it's Sabrett or Nathans) as I am with fois gras. For the record, Pizza (real NY style) is a food group.
  5. I hate cuddling in bed. I like the before, I LOVE the during but you can keep the after. Go to your side and let me sleep. No spooning either! Keep your heavy, dead weight arm off me. I'm trying to sleep, thank you. Luckily my husband is the same exact way.
  6. I have a FILTHY MOUTH and I love to curse. My favorites- twat, dirty whore, motherfucker, cocksucker and my all time favorite- Douchebag, which I'm very happy to say has made a big comeback. I'd been using it for years but until recently it wasn't used very often.
  7. I snore- LOUDLY (another reason not to cuddle with me).
  8. I'm a reality TV junkie. No exaggeration. The hours of life I lose on that crap is insane and I'd rather not think about it.
  9. I will yell at your kids. If your kid is acting out in public and you're not doing anything about it I've been know to say in my scary lady voice, "HEY, YOU! CUT.IT.OUT! NOW!" Of course you'll glare at me but it's only because you're embarrassed by your inability to control them in public. I'm not your friend therefor I'm under no obligation to suffer silently while they run over me in a store or throw things at my table as I'm trying to have a meal out. If it makes them cry, I blame you. You could have been a better parent and taken them home when you saw they had had enough and the meltdown was starting to take place. Instead you wanted to get sushi. Nice.
  10. I LOVE kids (didn't expect that one did you?)!
So I'm now handed the task of passing this along to some of my new favorite bloggers. I'm going to hit up those that are new to me so I can get to know them better:

Katherine Heigl in Chinatown

Does this photo look familiar?

It's none other than the beautiful Katherine Heigl on the August 2009 cover of InStyle Magazine.

Don't her lips just look so super luscious? Well, that would be because she's wearing Lipstick Queen's Chinatown Chase on them.

If you want a chance to win 1 of 4 different Lipstick Queen product packages I have up for grabs with a total retail value of $200- smackaroos click here and enter my incredible giveaway.

You only have a couple days left, so please don't miss out!

Fur Friends

My favorite little homeless cats Maxine (the gray one with the giant 'M' on her forehead) and Zorra are getting bigger now that they are eating real food. Maxine is very interested in us and tends to hang out a bit to watch us. As you can see Zorra is still very leery particularly when I have the camera out.

I've started picking them up a little so as to get them used to human touch and to socialize them in the hopes they can be adopted. Yes, that's their Mummy. Even though she's technically feral she's very trusting with me and doesn't mind me handling her babies. I'm pretty sure she knows I have three of her other ones inside who are deliciously healthy and happy. They watch each other through the window. Within the next week or so we're going to take her to be fixed via the local TNR (Trap Nueter and Release) group. So no more babies for Mummy. Poor thing needs a rest.

So again, if you know anyone who is in, or can travel to the NYC area that might be interested please let me know! I really want to get these sweet girls into homes.

The ASPCA endorses Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) as the only proven humane and effective method to manage feral cat colonies. Please click on the logo to get information that provides background on TNR, online and print resources, and what you can do to get involved in your community.

Rock Me!

My inner geology dork is screaming with excitement. Why? Well, If you've had your eye on the YSL Resort '10 collection you'll notice that Geode slice jewelry was a big focus.

If you don't have a YSL sized bank account then you might want to check out the designs by jeweler Jacquie Aiche. She specializes in rocks and minerals and her geode slice creation are just beautiful and certainly more wallet friendly than YSL.

I'm particularly fond of her drusy rings (the layer of tiny quartz crystals that form on a host stone. Often filling the cavity of the geodes).

I just love rocks, minerals. Stones don't necessarily have to be cut, faceted and polished in order to be beautiful. Nature is pretty spectacular just the way it is.
